Kirsteen Grieve

Owner and Lead Physiotherapist

I established Movement Physiotherapy in 2012 and I feel very fortunate to have a job that I am very passionate about. I get a huge amount of satisfaction from working alongside many inspiring and hugely dedicated individuals and their families to help achieve the best possible outcome through highly specialised physiotherapy input.

My Background

I graduated with a BSc honours Degree in Physiotherapy from Queen Margaret College in Edinburgh in 1998.

After this, I spent the first couple of years in the NHS, doing general rotations, but then quite quickly moved towards gaining experience and becoming more specialised in adult neurology and rehabilitation.

In 2002 I moved to New Zealand for three years, where I was the lead physiotherapist within a multi-disciplinary rehab team in a rural hospital. This further developed my skills in neurology, specifically stroke rehab, and many other wide-ranging long-term conditions. I was fortunate to complete my adult Bobath training course during my time in NZ, which is a specialist course in stroke rehabilitation. This massively changed the way that I assessed and analysed my patients, and made me a far better problem-solver!

On my return to Scotland in 2005, I made the move in to the field of Paediatrics. For the next 13 years I specialised purely in this area, particularly in neuro-disability, gaining experience and growing the depth of my knowledge by working in varied settings including the NHS, Special Education and more laterally within the Bobath Scotland Cerebral Palsy Therapy Centre (now known as Cerebral Palsy Scotland).

When I established Movement Physiotherapy in 2012, I worked purely with children and young people. I remained partly employed and also found time to start a family of my own! Once I became fully self-employed in 2018, the opportunity arose for me to return to working with neurological adult clients. Working with individuals with long-term physical difficulties regardless of their age is challenging, but one which I find exciting, hugely motivating and rewarding.

Throughout my career I have engaged in extensive post-graduate training and ongoing CPD in order to provide the most effective physiotherapy input that I can, based wherever possible on a sound evidence base. Working as an independent practitioner allows me the freedom to use many and varied therapy techniques and management strategies, in order to create completely bespoke, highly specialised and effective therapy programmes for each individual client. I thrive on pushing boundaries and am almost always prepared to give something new a try! I remain forward thinking and dynamic in my methods of delivery, with the ultimate goal of helping each individual become the best version of themselves.

My aim:

I want to make sure that regardless of whether my client is old or young, that they have fun! Therapy is only effective when the individual is an active participant, so making tasks enjoyable is vital!
